Coventry Raccoon Tests Positive For Rabies
Coventry police are urging pet owners to make sure their animals' rabies shots are up to date.
COVENTRY, RI — The Coventry Police Department is urging pet owners to make sure their animals' rabies vaccinations are up-to-date after a raccoon tested positive for the disease.
According to police, the raccoon was caught attacking a cat on Thursday night outside a house on Beach Street. The raccoon was euthanized for rabies testing by the Rhode Island Department of Health, where it tested positive for the disease. The cat is currently being treated at a nearby animal hospital for rabies exposure.
Anyone who has been in contact with a raccoon in the area is urged to contact Coventry Animal Control at 401-822-9106 of the Department of Health at 401-222-2577.
