Coventry Woman Accused Of Neglecting Her 2 Dogs To The Point Of Starvation

The two pit bulls were severely underweight, with their hips, spines, and ribs visible through their skin, Coventry police say.

COVENTRY, RI — A Coventry woman was arrested after police said she neglected two dogs to the point they were left emaciated and had skin infections and old wounds.

Casey Mooney, 26, was charged with two counts of unnecessary cruelty to an animal and two counts of care of dogs.

On April 12, Coventry police and animal control officers were called to the Helen Drive area for a report of two stray dogs that appeared to be starving. Police said they found two pit bulls that were severely underweight, with their hips, spines, and ribs visible through their skin. The dogs were also suffering from skin infections causing hair loss, along with old wounds to their face and head.

The dogs were taken to a local animal hospital for treatment. Police said the dogs are in the care and custody of Coventry Animal Control and are not available for adoption at this time.

Following an investigation, Mooney was identified as the dogs' owner, police said. According to police, Mooney's neglect in care contributed to the dogs' conditions.
