Five Things You Need To Know Today, April 17

Today is Wednesday, Apr. 17, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

 

CPL Puppet Show: The Coventry Public Library will host puppeteer John Tierney today at 10:30 a.m. for kids ages 4 and up! John will present a sweet, amusing puppet show featuring Burt the Raccoon. No registration required.

Earth Day Celebration: From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, members of the Parks & Recreation Department will host Coventry's annual Earth Day Cleanup and Celebration at the Coventry Greenway Crossing on Station Street. Activities will include the planting of annual flowers, perennials and bulbs, as well as a scenic walk on the Greenway while picking up litter as you stroll. Parks & Rec will supply planting materials, gloves, bags and tools, but feel free to bring your own as well. Refreshments, snacks and Earth Day giveaways will be handed out.
Please call the Parks and Recreation office at 822-9107 before April 19 to register for this free event.

Community Garden Help: The Coventry Community Garden, was organized and is overseen by longtime resident Gail Tatangelo, who now needs your help! With a new planting season upon us, volunteers are greatly needed to assist with planting, weeding, watering and harvesting now and through the summer months. If you're interested in volunteering time to the garden that provides healthy food to Coventry residents in need, email Gail at gail660@verizon.net. Volunteers are needed today at 9 a.m. for several hours to plant peas, cabbage and spinach. Feel free to stop by the garden across from Town Hall to lend a hand!

Coventry Rams Registration: Registration is still open for the Coventry Rams Football and Cheerleading 2013 season! Visit www.coventryrams.com to register online today. Registration costs are $120 for Tackle Football ($75 for Flag) and $95 for Cheerleading ($75 for Flag). Click here to access 2013 participant forms.

Youth Fishing Derby: Today is Coventry's Annual Youth Fishing Derby! Registered participants will leave the Community Center bright and early at 5:30 a.m. and return at 9 a.m. Prizes will be given for largest fish, most fish and farthest cast. Good luck to everyone attending and feel free to email any photos to lauren.costa@patch.com so I can share them with the community!
