Fox Bites Coventry Man's Face: Police
The fox was not believed to have been sick, and may have been protecting pups.
COVENTRY, RI — Coventry police are encouraging pet owners to be extra careful after a fox reportedly attacked a man and his dog in Ramblewood Estates.
The attack happened Wednesday evening, just before 8:30. According to police, the man was walking his dog, when it started growling at something he could not see. The fox then tried to attack the dog.
The man bent over to pick up his dog, and the fox attacked him, biting his face. It then ran off into the woods between Ramblewood Estates and Colonial Acres Recreational Park on Monroe Drive, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police said the fox did not appear to be sick and could have been defending pups. Both the Department of Environmental Management and Coventry Animal Patrol were notified.

Residents walking in the area are asked to use caution. Anyone who sees an animal that appears to be sick or injured is asked to call the DEM at 401-222-2284 or Coventry police at 401-826-1100.
