Fugitive Who Eluded Law After Crash Surrenders: Cops

The Hope Valley man turned himself in nine days after the crash, police said.

COVENTRY, RI — A wanted Coventry man on the loose for nine days after eluding the law following a crash surrendered, police said.

David Anthony, 23, turned himself in Monday morning at the Coventry Police Headquarters and was arrested, the Coventry Police Department said in a media release.

Anthony was wanted on charges of duty to stop in an accident resulting in personal injury, reckless driving or eluding a law enforcement officer, driving after denial, suspension or revocation for certain violations, and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty, according to the release.

On Sept. 6, Coventry officer attempted to pull over a pickup truck hauling a trailer on Route 117 but the driver sped away, according to police.

"Moments later, the truck collided with another westbound vehicle near Acres of Pine" Road, police said.

The occupants of the rear-ended vehicle were extricated and taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, according to police.

The occupants were evaluated and released from care, police said.

The driver of the pickup fled the crash on foot and remains at large, according to police.

Anthony, a resident of Skunk Hill Road in Hope Valley, remained in custody pending a court appearance Monday, according to the release.
