Man Dies after Sandy Bottom Road Crash

Coventry police said a man involved in a rollover crash Monday afternoon died at the hospital.

COVENTRY, RI—One person has died after a rollover crash on Sandy Bottom Road in Coventry on Monday.

Police said the crash happened at around 4:45 p.m. and the driver was trapped and unconscious inside the vehicle when police and firefighters arrived.

Police were able to free the man from the car and he was transported to Kent County Hospital where he later died, police said.

Two Coventry police officers were injured while trying to free the occupant, police said, and both were transported to the hospital and later released.

The accident is under investigation, though a preliminary review indicates the driver might have had a medical event while driving, police said.

The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
