Nathanael Greene Homestead To Celebrate General's 277th Birthday

COVENTRY, RI — It's going to take a lot of candles to celebrate a very special birthday, 277 to be precise. On Saturday, the General Nathanael Greene Homestead Association's will celebrate their namesake's birthday, more than 200 years after his death.

Greene was born in 1747 before becoming a major general in the Continental Army. In 1770, he built his homestead in Coventry, which has since been restored into the historic museum it is today.

On Saturday, the Homestead Association will mark the general's 277th birthday with a ceremony on the grounds at 1 p.m., followed by refreshments. The museum will be open for free tours from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
