RIDOT To Replace 2 Bridges On I-95 In Warwick

The $25.3 million project will replace the Centerville Road and Toll Gate Road Bridges over the course of eight days.

WARWICK, RI — Expect lane shifts and possible delays on Interstate 95 North in Warwick next week. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will begin an eight-day project to replace two bridges, starting at 7 p.m. May 28.

Traffic on both sides of the highway will be shifted to the paved median between the Centerville Road and Toll Gate Road Bridges, which are close together. The temporary road has been under construction for the past year, RIDOT said. While construction is underway, travel will be reduced from four lanes to three.

The $25.3 million project will replace the two bridges, which are rated "fair," which is one step above "structurally deficient." The Centerville Road bridge carries I095 over Route 117, between exits 10 and 11, while the Toll Gate Road Bridge carries the highway over Route 115. Together, the two bridges carrie around 174,000 vehicles each day.

RIDOT will replace the Centerville Road bridge first. Depending on which bridge is under construction, traffic will be shifted below the highway. Either Toll Gate Route (Route 115) or Centerville Road (Route 117) will be open during construction. Detour signs will be posted, and some limited ramp closures are planned.
