Utility Pole Fire Cut Power To 3,300 Coventry Residents

COVENTRY, RI — A utility pole fire left thousands of Coventry residents without power on Wednesday night. According to National Grid, power was restored to most within an hour, and all remaining customers had their lights back on before 9 p.m.
The outage was caused by an "equipment failure" on a pole on Flat River Road around 7:20 p.m. Video posted by a resident shows smoke and flames coming off the pole along with a loud sparking noise.
National Grid said initial repairs restored power to approximately 2,660 customers within 40 minutes. The remaining 640 residents were left in the dark for over an hour as final repairs were made. All customers had power restored by 8:50 p.m.
