1 Injured In Wrong-Way DUI Crash On Route 146 South

A 20-year-old woman was driving the wrong way on Route 146 South and hit two other vehicles, police said.

PROVIDENCE, RI — One person was injured in a wrong-way crash on Route 146 South in Providence Thursday night, Rhode Island State Police said. The driver was charged with driving under the influence.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. just north of the Admiral Street off ramp. Three vehicles were involved, all of which were seriously damaged.

According to police, a silver Nissan was headed the wrong way up the highway and sideswiped a vehicle in the high speed lane before hitting another vehicle in the low speed lane. The driver was later identified as 20-year-old Dulcelena Tavares, of Pawtucket.

One person was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Tavares was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content over 0.15, driving to endanger resulting in an injury and issued several traffic violations.
