Could RI Gas Prices Drop Below $4 Next Week?
But for these gas price drops to continue, hurricane season is going to have to cooperate.
RHODE ISLAND — Rhode Island's average gas prices dropped another 11 cents since last week, and if the decreases continue at the consistent rates we've seen, gas prices could realistically be below $4 by next week.
As of Monday, gas prices in the Ocean State are sitting at $4.08 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast. Monday's price was also 45 cents lower than it was a month ago, at $4.53, but $1.03 higher than Aug. 8 last year at $3.05.
But for these price drops to continue, hurricane season is going to have to cooperate.

"With prices continuing to fall, drivers and end-of summer vacationers are benefiting from gas prices that are almost a dollar lower than at their peak in mid-June," said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. "But now we need to keep an eye on the weather as hurricane season ramps up. Major storms can boost prices by disrupting oil production in the Gulf of Mexico and impacting large coastal refineries."
The current average price for a gallon of gas in Rhode Island is $4.08 for the cheap stuff, $4.67 for mid-grade, $4.95 for premium, and $5.15 for diesel.
