Cranston Police Chase Ends In Crash
Police said Robert Disumma, of Providence, was suspected of driving intoxicated when he led officers on a chase from Warwick to Cranston.
CRANSTON, RI — A Providence man suspected of driving impaired crashed into a Cranston storefront Monday night after leading officers on a chase that started in Warwick, police said. Robert Disumma, 54, was charged with eluding a police officer and vehicle violations and could face further charges.
Cranston Police Lt. Andy Sullivan said on Monday at about 8:35 p.m., a Warwick police officer encountered "what appeared to be a disabled motor vehicle" on West Shore Road.
"After speaking briefly with the operator, who claimed to have a brake issue, the officer recognized he had slurred speech and other indicators of possible liquor and/or drug intoxication," Sullivan said in a statement. "The operator then fled in the vehicle."

Officers gave chase and Disumma drove onto Warwick Avenue and headed north into Cranston, where officers terminated the pursuit due to Disumma's "increasingly dangerous speed," according to Sullivan.
A short distance later, Disumma crashed into a storefront and suffered minor injuries, Sullivan said. Disumma was arrested and treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

. @warwickripd say a pursuit (which officers stopped once the car in pursuit reached dangerous speeds) led to this car later losing control, crashing through a building in Cranston. I'll tell you why police wanted to originally stop the driver coming up at :30 past on @wpri12. pic.twitter.com/ZI5P0NKfY8
