Cranston Police Nab Another Porch Pirate, Looking For Accomplice

The police allege they caught a Providence man stealing a delivery package left for a homeowner on Ferncrest Avenue.

CRANSTON, RI — Cranston police arrested a Providence man for allegedly stealing a delivery package that belonged to a homeowner on Ferncrest Avenue . Jose D. De La Cruz, 22,was caught on camera tossing an Amazon box out the car window, police said. Officers found out about the theft after a Doylston Street resident found the empty box and thought it was suspicious. Later, the department received two complaints about packages stolen in front of Ferncrest Avenue homes.

The investigation led to a description of the suspect and the car, which police spotted 10 days later on Narragansett Street near Ferncrest Avenue. De La Cruz Boya was ultimately charged with larceny under $1,500 and Conspiracy. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance and is due in court on March 27.

Police are still looking for his accomplice. They believe he is Pablo Martinez and that he returned to the Dominican Republic. Anyone with information about Martinez is asked to call Det. John Ryan at 401-942-2211.
