CRANSTON, RI — The majority of preliminary results are in for the Cranston mayoral and City Council primaries, and according to the Rhode Island Board of Elections, Maria Bucci is leading the race for the Democratic nomination. Kenneth Hopkins won on the Republican side after Michael Farina conceded the race, WPRI reported.

All but one precinct returned results from Election Day, and mail-in votes have yet to be counted. The race has proven to be closer among Democrats, with Bucci 7 percentage points ahead of Steven Stycos. If the results hold, Bucci will face off against Hopkins in November.

Cranston Democrats also selected three city councilors from a pool of four candidates. Jessica Marino had a healthy lead Tuesday night, with Paul Archetto, Larry Orlando Warner and Dylan Zelazo in close contention for the second and third spots in the general election.
