Cranston Wins AAA's 2022 Gold Award For Community Traffic Safety

AAA's award recognizes communities that make outstanding efforts to make the region's roads safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

CRANSTON, RI — Cranston won the AAA Northeast Gold Award for community traffic safety, police said Wednesday.

AAA's award recognizes communities that make outstanding efforts to make the region’s roads safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

"As COVID -19restrictions lifted, many communities saw an increase in traffic incidents," Cranston police said in a Facebook post. "The city was recognized for stepping up and adjusting its many traffic safety efforts for 2022 to keep those incidents down. Those initiatives included conducting child car seat inspections/installations, as well as education programs and targeted enforcement to discourage aggressive and distracted driving."

"The city also participated in a wide variety of enforcement programs such as Blue Riptide, Click It or Ticket and CARE directed enforcement, contributing to safer driving," police added. "Congratulations to the men and women of the Cranston Police Department for their hard work and dedication to safety."
