PROVIDENCE, RI — Dragons, mermaids, the Loch Ness monster, griffins, and unicorns, might not be real, but we can imagine what these mythical creatures would look like in real life, thanks to Roger Williams Park Zoo.

Opening April 7 and running through Aug. 11, the zoo's Dragons & Mythical Creatures exhibit will allow guests to witness 60 life-size animatronic mythical creatures, as they move, roar, and even breathe smoke. There will also be interactive exhibits delving into global folklore.

"From fire-breathing beasts of destruction in Western myths to the majestic symbols of fortune and harmony in Chinese legends, dragons offer a fascinating glimpse into the diversity of cultural interpretations," a zoo spokesperson said. "Tales of mermaids weaves through diverse cultures globally, ranging from coastal communities in Ireland to the Karoo desert in South Africa. Or take the Kraken, rooted in Scandinavian folklore and portrayed as a menacing cephalopod capable of destroying ships and dragging sailors to their doom —this is a prevalent theme in seafaring myths worldwide."
