Elderly Cranston Woman Dies After Being Hit By SUV
Once the driver realized she hit someone, she sprinted to a nearby home to get help, Cranston police say.

CRANSTON, RI — An elderly Cranston woman died after getting hit by an SUV on Friday night, according to police.
Police said the crash happened around 7:40 p.m. on Strathmore Road. When emergency responders arrived, they found an unconscious woman without a pulse.
Police said first responders attempted CPR and other lifesaving measures, but they were not successful. The woman was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where she was ruled dead.

Cranston police identified the crash victim as Lundy Braun, 77.
The driver, a 25-year-old woman, remained on scene and cooperated with officers, police said. She told police she was backing out of a driveway after visiting someone and did not realize anyone was behind her until after she struck Braun. Once the driver realized she hit someone, she sprinted to a nearby home to get help, police said.

Police said the driver showed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Her 2009 Toyota Highlander was towed to Cranston Police Headquarters for further examination. Police said the driver was released, and no charges have been filed.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Braun's family as they deal with this tragic event, as well with the driver and passenger, who were obviously extremely distraught," Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist said.
