Gas Prices In Rhode Island Continue 2-Month Slide

The average price of gas nationally dropped below $4, according to AAA. Rhode Island still has a little ways to go before meeting that mark.

RHODE ISLAND — Gas prices nationwide continued their steady decline, and now for two months straight, prices kept dropping in Rhode Island, according to AAA Northeast.

Sitting at an average of $4.19 per gallon, Rhode Island's gas prices were down 10 cents from last week at $4.29. Monday's price was also 45 cents lower than it was a month ago, at $4.64, but $1.13 higher than Aug. 8 last year at $3.06.

The national average of gas on Monday was $3.95. According to AAA Northeast, the steady decline is due to oil prices remaining stable and fewer drivers than usual fueling up.

"Falling pump prices may eventually lead to more drivers hitting the road again," said Lloyd Albert, a senior vice president for AAA Northeast. "But that hasn’t happened yet. Instead, many drivers are waiting for prices to fall further before reverting to their typical driving habits."

The current average price for a gallon of gas in Rhode Island is $4.19 for the cheap stuff, $4.75 for mid-grade, $5.05 for premium, and $5.25 for diesel.
