Governor For A Day Contest: Raimondo Extends Deadline
The essay contest is open to girls in grades 5 through 8.

SMITHFIELD, RI — Come April, a lucky Rhode Island schoolgirl will have the ear of the governor, maybe a judge or two and other politicians as the state's Governor For A Day. Gov. Gina Raimondo has held the essay contest every year for the past four years. No boys need apply; it's only open to girls in grades 5 through 8. The topic? "What would you do as Rhode Island's Governor for a day?"
The winner is the girl who comes up with an answer in 400 words (or fewer).
Originally, the deadline was March 16. But the governor decided to push the deadline back to March 21, which is Wednesday. The reason is due to the snow storms.

"I've already received some amazing essays," the governor said, "but I've also heard from teachers who are concerned that multiple snow days over the past two weeks have limited students' ability to apply. I want every eligible girl to have a shot at being our 2018 Governor for a Day, so I've decided to extend the contest until Wednesday, March 21."
Here are the rules from Raimondo's office.
