Immaculate Conception School Welcomes Bishop Richard Henning

CRANSTON, RI - Immaculate Conception Catholic Regional School and its community will welcome the Most Reverend Richard Henning, Bishop of Providence, for Saints in Focus: Celebrating Faith, Fine Arts, and Innovation on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. The day will showcase the school's commitment to nurturing the growth of the whole child through faith, fine arts, and innovation which will begin by celebrating Mass with Bishop Henning. After Mass, the community will celebrate the culmination of the Upper School’s new Pathways curriculum with Capstone presentations and a schoolwide art show showcasing student works.

The ICCRS Pathways Program is a cutting-edge, educational initiative aimed at cultivating innovation, creativity, and problem-solving among students while preparing them for the challenges of high school and beyond. The program consists of two distinct pathways: The Fine Arts pathway and the Innovative Thinking pathway. The Fine Arts pathway, with courses such as “Intro to Film Scoring” provides students with an immersive experience in various disciplines, including visual arts, performing arts, music, dance, and theater.
The Innovative Thinking pathway, which includes courses such as “Intro to Financial Literacy,” empowers students to apply their knowledge and skills in authentic, real-world learning experiences. This pathway equips students with the skills needed to become active contributors to innovation in various fields.

Each course culminates in a graded capstone project and public presentation, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their skills and accomplishments.

"The ultimate goal of our Pathways Program is to nurture a new generation of innovative thinkers, artists, and problem-solvers," said Mr. Mike Miele, Principal at ICCRS. "We believe that by providing students with the tools and opportunities to explore their passions and develop essential skills, we can empower them to make a meaningful impact on the world."
8th grade ICCR student, Diante Jackson (Cranston) further explained that, “This new program has had a substantial effect on me throughout the school year. The pathways program influenced me to try different skills that were out of my comfort zone. Through our new Pathways program, students are offered a chance to showcase talents that usually fall outside of the lens of traditional academics while learning more about themselves in the process."

The ICCRS Pathways Program aims to prepare students to face future challenges with confidence and to seize opportunities to drive positive societal change. By fostering this culture of innovation and creativity, the program seeks to inspire students to become compassionate builders of the future.
