Situation Where Man Barricades Himself At Warwick Hotel Ends Peacefully: Police

Warwick police say no one was injured, but officers found a gun during a protective sweep of the hotel at Extended Stay America.

WARWICK, RI — A situation where a man having a mental health crisis barricaded himself for four hours in a Warwick hotel has ended peacefully, according to police.

Warwick police said the situation started around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, when Pawtucket police asked for help finding a man experiencing a mental health crisis. The man, identified as a 47-year-old Pawtucket resident, was at the Extended Stay America hotel on Metro Center Boulevard, according to police.

Police said the man voluntarily left his hotel room after about four hours of negotiations. He was then taken to Kent County Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.

Police said no one was injured, but during a protective sweep of the hotel room, officers found a gun. Police said the incident remains under investigation.
