CRANSTON, RI — A water main break Thursday night caused major traffic delays on Cranston's Phenix Avenue. Police asked drivers to avoid the area if possible as crews continue to fix the issue.

Crews were on the scene all night to fix the break, police said, continuing into Friday morning. All northbound traffic will be detoured east at Curtis Street to avoid the construction area, and backups are likely headed in both directions, police said. Southbound traffic will be able to continue on Phenix Avenue. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.

Photos posted on the department's Facebook page show the overnight construction effort.
