RI Gas Price Average Drops Below $4 For First Time SInce February

Still, Rhode Island's average gas price remains 10 cents higher than the national average.

RHODE ISLAND — Rhode Island's average gas prices dropped another 13 cents since last week, bringing the average cost at the pump below $4 for the first time since February, according to AAA Northeast.

As of Monday, gas prices in the Ocean State are sitting at $3.95 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast. Monday's price was also 48 cents lower than it was a month ago, at $4.43, but 89 cents higher than Aug. 29 last year at $3.06.

Still, Rhode Island's average gas price remains 10 cents higher than the national average.

"Gas prices remain relatively high here in the northeast, where inventories are lower than in other parts of the country," said Lloyd Albert, a senior vice president for AAA Northeast. "Prices continue to fall steadily, however, and that’s good news for motorists planning their last summer driving trip over the upcoming Labor Day weekend."

The current average price for a gallon of gas in Rhode Island is $3.95 for the cheap stuff, $4.55 for mid-grade, $4.85 for premium and $5.12 for diesel.
