Firework Remnants Might Have Caused Cumberland Fire: Officials

The fire was reported around 1:25 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Morning Glory Road in Cumberland, officials told Patch.

CUMBERLAND, RI — Used fireworks are believed to be the cause of a Wednesday morning fire that destroyed a house and a car in Cumberland, fire officials told Patch Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 1:25 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Morning Glory Road, from where an adult and three children were safely evacuated, officials said.

The fireworks were set off around 9 p.m. Tuesday, after which the firework remnants were left behind, according to officials.

The main house sustained heavy fire and structural damage, officials said, adding that the Red Cross is assisting the displaced family and insurance companies and building officials will determine whether the home is a total loss.

The homes to the left and right also sustained heat damage, according to officials.
