Bishop Hendricken Principal Retires After Racist Remarks: WPRI

WPRI-TV 12 is reporting the principal retired after a six-second video surfaced showing him making racist and anti-Semitic slurs.

WARWICK, RI — The principal of Bishop Hendricken High has retired after an anonymous source sent a video to WPRI-TV 12 and the head of the Providence NAACP showing the principal making racial slurs. Jay Brennan, according to WPRI, is heard making two slurs, one degrading African-Americans and one anti-Semitic.

According to WPRI, he is heard saying "That way I could take care of the (racist slur) and the (anti-Semitic slur)." The entire tape is 13 words and was apparently edited.

School President John A. Jackson said in a statement Brennan has retired after 40 years at the school. The school also said Mr. Brennan had "supported the ideals and mission" of Bishop Hendricken and "continually modeled the goal of promoting diversity." But even though the tape was apparently made secretly, edited and lacks context, Jackson noted, the school "will not tolerate inflammatory language in any context."
