Coast Guard Suspends Search For Michael Perry, Missing Kayaker

The U.S. Coast Guard said Saturday it has suspended the search for a 46-year-old Warwick man, pending new information.

WARWICK, RI— The U.S. Coast Guard said Saturday it has suspended the search for a 46-year-old Warwick man, pending new information. The Coast Guard and the Marine Task Force searched the Providence River and waters near Conimicut Point for Michael Perry after his wife called 911 and said he left home around noon Friday to go kayaking and did not return. The Coast Guard was notified around 5 p.m. that he was missing. The search "saturated a 104 square nautical mile area," the Coast Guard said, and included Station Castle Hill Newport's 45-foot rescue boat; Aids to Navigation Team Bristol's 49-foot boat, a Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod, Coast Guard Cutter Steelhead from Newport.

In addition, the Providence Police, the state Department of Environmental Management and other fire departments, including North Kingstown, Warwick, Cranston and Barrington joined the search.

The search was suspended at 5:41 p.m. Saturday.

Perry was believed to be in a 10-foot orange kayak. It's unknown if he was wearing a life jacket.
