Corrigan Reinstatement Delayed Tuesday

The Town Council was forced to cancel its meeting because an overflow crowd turned out and could not be accommodated in the meeting room.

EAST GREENWICH, RI— The third time might prove the charm for Gayle Corrigan's official appointment as Town Manager. The East Greenwich Town Council had planned to appoint her to the post Tuesday after a judge had ruled the first appointment violated Town Charter and was therefore "null and void." (The judge also found the Town had violated the Open Meetings Act because the appointment wasn't properly listed on the agenda.)

But tonight, an overflow crowd forced the council to cancel the meeting, which will be rescheduled. According to the Providence Journal, the reason was because the council would have needed two rooms to avoid capacity issues, and the meeting had not been double-posted.
