EG Fundraiser Monday For Mom, Daughter Injured In Boston Blast

Celeste Corcoran lost both legs; her daughter Sydney is also hospitalized. Husband and father is from Quidnessett.

The story of Celeste and Sydney Corcoran, the mother and daughter injured in the Boston Marathon bombings last week has been all over the news. Mother Celeste had to have both her legs amputated; daughter Sydney – hit by shrapnel – spent her 18th birthday in the hospital, sharing a room with her mother.

But what many of us here in the East Greenwich area didn't know was that husband and father Kevin Corcoran grew up in North Kingstown, the Quidnesset area. As his brother Tim Corcoran said, "We grew up going to the Kent Theater" on Main Street.

In response to the tragedy, family friends Allen Gammons and Tim Schartner have organized "An Evening of Giving" to benefit the Celeste and Sydney Recovery Fund, at Rok Bar and Grill on Monday, April 29. The event, which starts at 5:30 p.m., will include a silent auction.

Tim Corcoran said Thursday the two women (Sydney just turned 18 on Tuesday) are improving daily.

"They are doing amazingly well. They are getting stronger every day and we hope to get them into rehab by the weekend," he said. Corcoran lives in Warwick.
