EGHS is Tops in RI, According to National Ranking Firm

Niche gave East Greenwich High School an A+ rating based on test scores, academic opportunities and student and parent rankings.

East Greenwich High School has been ranked the best in the state by Niche, a national data analysis and ranking firm that specializes in school and community data.

The school earned an overall A+ rating based on strong student achievement, skilled teachers and better than average school facilities.

A total of 100,000 schools were scrutinized by Niche, formerly Google Prowler, and the rankings were mainly based on rankings from actual students and parents.

EGHS garnered 107 reviews and they were mostly positive.

“East Greenwich High School is a great school to attend. The size of the student body makes for a close-knit community. There are ample opportunities to get involved between sports teams, clubs, and volunteer work,” wrote one “The school itself is very well kept and clean. East Greenwich High School hosts many unique traditions like International Idol and Airband that are always a fun time for students. The teachers really care about their students and are always available for extra help or make ups.”

Students and parents mentioned the school’s emphasis on instilling positive values based on respect and collaboration.

Negative reviews centered on food, with one senior stating that “the cafeteria is utterly disgusting and administrators are quick to take away outside and hallway-eating privileges due to a few students littering.”

According to Niche, 84 percent of students are considered proficient in math and reading and lags no other Rhode Island school in any of the major categories except “student culture and diversity.”

It’s hard to fault EGHS for getting a C+ in that category, since diversity is a product of the local demographics.

What the numbers don’t show is that EGHS has a comprehensive and engaging approach to teaching diversity and acceptance. In this town, unified sports are held in the same high regard as varsity football and students engage in community service projects not because they need to fulfill a requirement, but because many want to.

Trailing East Greenwich, according to Niche, is Barrington High School at the No. 2 spot, followed by Classical High School in Providence, Portsmouth High School, and Exeter-West Greenwich Regional High School.

The MET School in Providence, North Kingstown High School, Narragansett High School and the Times2 Academy in Pawtucket round out the top 10.
