Family Asks for Prayers for URI Student

Family, friends and members of Janice Michaela Wray’s church continue to pray for her this week, about a week after a car accident in Connecticut that left her hospitalized with neck and leg injuries.

Members of Sanctuary Church are leaving prayers and maintaining a news page for Wray here. According to the site’s maintainer, “At the scene of the accident, Janice was unable to feel her legs and emergency medical services identified a broken neck and internal bleeding.”

However, in the latest update – dated April 6 – Wray’s lungs and breathing capacity have improved. She is undergoing physical therapy for her arms, and doctors plan to move her to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston from Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she was taken by a Lifestar helicopter following the accident.

According to a report in The New London Day, the accident happened on Route 95 in Waterford, Conn., shortly after 9:45 a.m. on April 1. Police said Wray’s car skidded off the road to the right. She was wearing a seatbelt, but the airbag in her car did not deploy.

According to online student records, Wray is a nursing student and on the Dean’s List at URI. Friends are also leaving messages on her Facebook wall here.
