Five+ Things: Harvest Fest, Steve Marra 5K, Open Studios Tour

Steve Marra 5K this morning! The Steve Marra Foundation 5K Road Race takes place today and starts behind the Grille on Main and finishes in front, on Main Street. It honors , and will raise money for the poor and homeless. Race day registration takes place starting at 8 a.m. at the Grille. Race start time is 9:30 a.m. Get on down to Main Street! 

Fifth Annual West Bay Open Studios Tour: Autumn is the perfect time to take a drive from art studio to art studio, through the backroads of East Greenwich and beyond for the 5th Annual Open Studios Tour. At each stop you will have the opportunity to meet the artists in their working environments, view the artistic process, and purchase original art. The self-guided tour is free and open to the public, includes artists' studios in East Greenwich, Warwick (Apponaug and Cowesett), Exeter, North Kingstown, and Saunderstown. Adopt-A-Pet Open House: Animals are available for viewing and adoption today with the assistance of a dedicated East Greenwich Animal Protection League member. The open house takes place at Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital from 10:30 to 1 p.m. Individual appointments are also available.

Harvest Festival w/pumpkins: There will be a Harvest Festival at EG United Methodist Church on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. featuring local musicians, food, hayrides for the children, crafts and games, and a huge pumpkin patch. Janice Wray, East Greenwich resident and URI nursing student, suffered serious injury in a car accident on April 1st of this year which left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair.  After almost 4 months in hospitals she has come back home to her family and now faces a new path of healing and recovery within her local community.  While her positive spirit and determination to overcome and succeed is remarkable and an inspiration to many, the road ahead for her promises to be long and arduous, with many as yet unknown obstacles and medical expenses.

Grief Support: This group meets in the Christ Church office condo on Sunday afternoons and is for anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one. Each week there is a video which covers different topics pertinent to those who are grieving. Following the video there is time to discuss the contents with others in the group. Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. It is a safe and welcoming environment. For more information, contact the church at 884-8632.

Pops & Classical Concert Sunday: Enjoy a delightful concert of pops and classical masterpieces this Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Westminster Unitarian Church, 119 Kenyon Ave. Local classical pianist Philip Martorella is joined by vocalist John Faiola for a selection of pieces from Billy Joel to Claude Debussy. Works by Bach, Chopin, Liszt, Puccini, John, Joplin, Lennon-McCartney, Wildhorn, and others will provide attendees with something for everyone.  Tickets may be purchased at the door. Adults $15, seniors $12, children $8.
