Five Things: Hoops State Championship

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Feb 24.

EGHS Boys Basketball State Championship: The Avengers will play North Smithfield in the Division III final today at 3 p.m. at Brown University after an exciting win over Middletown, 63-59, Friday night. Junior Brandon Eckles scored a team-high 16 points. Go Avengers!!!

EGHS Boys Hockey: The varsity squad takes on Lincoln at Benny Magiera Memorial Ice Rink in West Warwick today at 4:30 p.m.

Back in the saddle: After a week away from the website, I’m back. I have some catching up to do! I’ll be combing through last week’s emails but feel free to email me again if you tried me last week and haven't heard back.

On Monday …

Town Council meeting: The Council will hear an application by Silver Spoon Bakery for a liquor license, but will first need to increase the number of liquor licenses allowed. In addition, they will consider a new victualling license for children’s consignment clothing store Lina Piccolina as well as discussing the EG Fire District merger. Also on the agenda is appointment of a Tree Warden for 2013 – not insignificant in the wake of the damage inflicted on many street trees in town in the wake of the Blizzard of 2013 earlier this month and Superstorm Irene last fall.

Pickup hockey: URI’s Boss Ice Arena offers a public hockey program available to men and women 14 years of age and older. If you're looking for a fun pickup game or if you're looking to challenge yourself against other competition, the Boss Arena is the place to be. All participants are required to wear full equipment. It takes place Wednesday and Friday too. From noon to 2 p.m., $6 per person.
