Five Things: Lots Of Events This Weekend
Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, March 8.

Cabaret, a celebration of beloved EG teacher Ric Saborio: Tonight and tomorrow night, the East Greenwich school community is coming together to present a Cabaret of music, song, entertainment “celebrating our beloved EG teacher Ric Saborio.” Come see your classmates, neighbors, and friends perform on the stage at Cole Middle School. Tickets, $5, are available at the door. Show time both nights is 7 p.m.
Teen Center: The Teen Center has provided a great place to hang out on Friday evenings for decades now. They meet at the gym at Eldredge School but you don’t have to play basketball to enjoy the camaraderie. From 6 to 8 p.m.
Circus Smirkus is back: You don’t have to run away to join this circus – you just have to be in third, fourth, fifth or sixth grade. Circus Smirkus is back for a second year in a row offering a weeklong after-school circus “boot camp” for kids in grades 3 through 6. (Read about their program last year here.) Students who sign up will learn juggling, tight wire, diabolos, devil sticks, acrobatics and much more – all from a professional Circus Smirkus coach. The program runs from March 18 to March 22 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Hanaford Elementary School. The final performance takes place there on Friday, March 22, at 6 p.m. Cost of program: $100 per student. Girls on the Run sign ups: Registration is now open for Girls on the Run in East Greenwich. The mission of GOTRRI is to "inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.” Read about the program here, or check out their website. This spring, there are two programs in East Greenwich open to girls in grades 3-5: Rocky Hill School: Tuesdays & Thursdays 3:30-4:45, starts March 5th (no sessions 3/12, 14, 19, 21), and Meadowbrook Elementary: Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30-4:45, starts March 11th (no sessions 4/15+17, 5/27). EG Senior Center Artist Show: The artists have their works on display at the EG Free Library during regular business hours through the end of the month. The artists reception is Tuesday, March 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
On Saturday …
St. Thomas Boys Choir concert Saturday: One of the premier boys choirs in the world – the St. Thomas Church Boys Choir of New York City – will be performing at St. Luke’s Saturday afternoon at 4. Admission is free but donations are accepted. A reception will follow.

Daylight Savings Time begins: Can spring be far behind?
Cherish the Ladies: The famous Irish music group returns to the Odeum just a week before St. Patrick’s Day. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $30.Click here to order.

Special Olympics Polar Plunge: The 6th Annual Torch Run Plunge takes place at the beach at Goddard Park Sunday at noon, with signups starting at 10 a.m. To kick off the festivities, Richmond Police Chief Elwood Johnson will be taking the plunge at Goddard 24 times (!!!) – once an hour, starting at noon Saturday. All are welcome. There is a $50 minimum to participate or a $15 donation to join the after party.
