Five Things: Senate Panel Vote, Froyo Fundraiser

Senate Finance Committee vote on EGFD bill: Legislation to abolish the independent EG Fire District and create a fire department under the Town of East Greenwich will go up for a vote before the Senate Finance Committee, which heard testimony on the bill two weeks ago. The vote will take place “at the rise of the Senate,” some time after 4 p.m.
Unified Vball Fundraiser at Orange Leaf: You can support the EGHS Unified Volleyball Team quest to defend their national championship while satisfying your frozen yogurt appetite today between 4 and 8 p.m. at Orange Leaf. The froyo shop will donate 10 percent of all sales during those hours to help the team travel to the Project Unified National Volleyball Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, later this month.

Avenger Home Action: The Boys JV Baseball team plays Moses Brown today at 4:15 p.m. On Wednesday, Girls JV Fastpitch Softball plays Middletown at 4 p.m., Boys Volleyball plays NKHS at 6:30 p.m. You can follow all the Avenger action at the EG Booster Club website here.

House vote on EGFD bill: The full House will take up the legislation during their regular session, which begins at 4 p.m.
Affordable Housing Task Force meeting: Comprehensive Plan update and discussion of future speaking dates. Town Hall at 3:30 p.m.
Planning Board: On the agenda is the combined Master and Preliminary Plan application for a quick-lane automobile service facility at the northeast corner of South County Trail and Frenchtown Road. The design calls for a one-story, five-car service bay, with an alignment bay, and car wash. Also on the agenda is pre-application request for Frenchtown Place, a 10-lot residential subdivision. The meeting takes place in Council Chambers at Town Hall at 7 p.m.
David-Max Grand Opening: The ribbon-cutting for Main Street’s newest home-goods store happens at 5 p.m.

Arts on Main: Arts on Main sidewalk art contest takes place Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. with a rain date of Saturday, May 11. The event will kick off at the East Greenwich Town Hall and drawing will take place on Courthouse Lane and Pierce Street. Prizes for the best drawings will be awarded for each category and all pre-registered participants will receive an exclusive Arts on Main t-shirt. If you are not an artist, come enjoy the day and vote for your favorite drawing in the People’s Choice Award!
Barbara Tufts Co-op May Fair: On Sunday is the 33rd Annual Mayfair, held rain or shine, the May Fair takes place at Academy Field/Swift Gym, in East Greenwich. This year the theme is “OnceUpon a Time…" Inspired by classic
children’s stories, the fair will offer games, crafts, food, plant sales, a silent auction and so much more. Admission is free. Activities and food may be purchased in exchange for tickets, which cost 50 cents a piece. From 11 a.m to 3 p.m.
