Halloween Comes To Main Street

There are two events this year: a Ghost Walk tonight and the popular EG Parks & Rec Halloween Parade and party Saturday.

All sorts of scary stuff has been happening around town and more is coming our way, with both a Thursday evening Ghost Walk on Main Street and the 19th Annual Halloween Parade and Party on Saturday.

Try a Ghost Tour Thursday, a guided candlelight stroll on Main Street exploring local myths and legends. Tour the haunted Greenwich Hotel and stop by various restaurants and shops for a trick or treat. Participants include Skyleen Mustang, Gifts of Spirit, Staci’s Place, Luniac Glamour, The Chocolate Delicacy, The Grille on Main, Cafe Fresco, and La Masseria. Tours start at ‎Skyleen Mustang (176 Main Street, 401-884-4927). From 5 and 8 p.m. $12/person.

On Saturday, the East Greenwich Parks & Recreation Dept., in conjunction with the East Greenwich Veteran Fireman’s Association and the Hill and Harbor Merchants, host the 19th Annual Halloween Parade and Party.

The parade of characters, spooks, ghosts, and goblins will show off their costumes as the group marches south down on Main Street. The parade begins at Academy Field, with participants meeting there at 9:45 a.m. and the parade starting promptly at 10 a.m.

Immediately following the parade, the ever popular Halloween egg hunt will commence at Academy Field. Bring a bag to gather all your eggs.

From 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. the Parks & Recreation Department will be sponsoring activities and refreshments at the Town Hall on Main Street. Grab a ride from the horse-drawn hay wagon from the rear of the municipal parking lot, along Marlborough Street.

The Hill & Harbour Merchants will kick off their activities with trick or treating in the shops between 10:30 a.m. and noon for children 12 and under who are dressed in a Halloween costume. Check the Town’s web page (www.eastgreenwichri.com) as the date draws near for participating shops or pick up a flyer at Town Hall, the Parks & Recreation Department, the Library and along Main Street.

This is a free event, but donations of canned goods for the local food cupboard will be accepted at Academy Field and at Town Hall to make this a "Helping Halloween" event. Parent participation is required at this event.

The community as a whole helps to sponsor this event through volunteer hours, food, in-kind services, and donations. Without the countless people and contributors, this event would not take place. For more information contact the East Greenwich Parks & Recreation office at 886-8626, ext. 1.
