Norton's Busy Moving Boats Out Of Water In Advance Of Sandy

In a scene being replicated all up and down the Northeast Coast this weekend, Norton's Boatyard is bustling, pulling boats from the water in advance of Hurricane Sandy.

As of Saturday night, the storm was heading for southern New Jersey Monday but its size is such the winds and rain will extend far beyond.

"We're pretty busy," said Nicole Pregioni, office manager at Norton's. "We have a lot of people waiting to be hauled out."

Pregioni said the advance notice had been helpful – boats have been hauled out at a faster pace since Friday. 

"We've been flat out pretty busy for a couple of days," she said. "For the most part, everyone's being cautious." 

Some people have been on the fence about getting their boat out. One reason is that the boats coming out in a hurry now will have to be put back into the water once the storm threat is over so that they can be properly washed and readied for winter storage.

"A lot of people have been calling their insurance companies to see if they'll cover the hauling cost," Pregioni said.
