Police Log: An Admitted Drunk, A 'Leashed' Dog

Monday, Oct. 22

9:22 a.m. – A Vine Street resident told police someone had stolen her wallet from an unlocked car parked at her house. She said the wallet contained three credit cards, a driver’s license, a library card, and $80 cash. There was no damage to the car.

10:14 a.m. – The animal control officer cited a Brookside resident for refusing to hold his dog’s leash while at Scalloptown Park, even after the officer told the man to do so. The man said it was enough that the dog’s leash was attached to his collar and that it was not written anywhere that anything more was needed.

12:45 p.m. – A resident of Sleepy Hollow Road reported hearing a loud noise like a rock hitting her house Sunday night. In the morning, she noticed a chip in her windshield. She asked that the incident be documented for insurance purposes.

Tuesday, Oct. 23

1:20 a.m. – Police arrested Madison Barry, 19, of Symonds Avenue in Warwick, for driving with a suspended license after she was stopped on South County Trail for crossing into the fog line twice. Police issued a municipal citation for “laned roadway violation” and a Third District Court summons for the license suspension. A relative arrived on the scene to drive Barry and the car from the scene.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

12:23 a.m. – After receiving a report of a car having hit a deer, police went to Division Street at Westfield Drive. The deer was suffering with two broken legs, so police put it down. The car was undamaged and the driver left before the deer was shot.

10:30 a.m. – An employee of a hair salon on Main Street reported a decorative lamp post outside the salon had been broken overnight. She told police the lamp post had been undamaged at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday and that she’d arrived at 10:15 a.m. to find it on the ground.

3:30 p.m. – A Grandview Road resident reported missing two Garmin GPS devices, one from each of the cars parked in her driveway between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday. The cars had been unlocked, she said.

8 p.m. – Police arrested Gordon Wheeler, 55, of North Smithfield Road in North Smithfield, for driving while intoxicated, refusing a chemical breath test, and driving with a suspended license after he was involved in an accident on Division Street near the Showcase Cinemas. During investigation of the accident, police realized Wheeler seemed to be drunk. He refused to take a field sobriety test, announcing instead, “I am drunk, I admit it.” At the station, he refused the breath test.
