Police Log: Asleep At The Wheel, Bank Fraud

Monday, Oct. 1

10:52 a.m. – Police arrested Jeffrey Spaulding, 24, of Tiogue Avenue in Coventry, on a bench warrant after the car he was traveling in was stopped on Division Street at Kenyon Avenue because of an expired inspection sticker. Routine checks turned up the registration belonged to a different car and that Spaulding, a passenger, was wanted for failing to appear in District Court. He was taken to the station, processed and delivered to Third District Court. The driver of the car was cited for the inspection and registration violations and the car was towed from the scene.

12:49 p.m. – The property manager at Greenwich Village on Main Street reported graffiti had been sprayed on one of the buildings. The words “Goliath” and “401 Snow” were written in red paint. The manager said it happened sometime between Friday and Sunday nights.

1:50 p.m. – The manager of Cumberland Farms on Post Road reported graffiti on the rear of the building. As with the incident at Greenwich Village, the words “Goliath” and “401 Snow” were written in red paint. In addition, the number “542” was painted in black paint on the side of the building. Employees reported seeing the graffiti on Sunday.

3:46 p.m. – Police assisted EGFD at West Bay Laundry on Post Road after a dryer caught fire.

5:59 p.m. – A North Providence woman told police someone had withdrawn money from her Citizens Bank account using an ATM at the Pawtucket Credit Union on Post Road in East Greenwich.

7 p.m. – Police assisted EGFD Rescue with an intoxicated man found behind 630 Main St. Rescue took the man to Kent Hospital and police secured the man’s bicycle at the station.

Tuesday, Oct. 2

4:37 p.m. – A West Warwick man told police someone withdrew $200 from his bank account using an ATM at Sovereign Bank on Main Street in EG.

Wednesday, Oct. 3

2:10 a.m. – Police arrested Julio Ravelo, 31, of Dedford Street on a bench warrant after he was found asleep in his car in the westbound lane of Division Street at the light at Showcase Cinema. The car was in “park.” A routine check turned up the warrant. He was processed at the station, then taken to the ACI. His car was towed from the scene.

11:56 a.m. – A Laurel Lane resident reported missing jewelry, saying she noticed it soon after the departure of two guests to her house on Sept. 12. The items – two diamond rings and diamond earrings – had been in a dresser in the master bedroom. The resident said she’d been looking for the items for weeks and finally contacted to her insurance company. She was told to file a police report.

12:44 p.m. – A sales manager at Flood Ford reported the theft of an exhaust system valued at $1,000 from a 2008 Mustang GT 350 on the lot. He said the theft took place sometime between Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. and Oct. 1.
