Police Log: Bank Account Fraud, Changed Locks

Monday, Feb. 11

11:32 a.m. – An EG resident asked police to issue a No Contact order against the father of her child after he was in a fight with her neighbor while he was visiting their daughter at her home. Police left a phone message for the man, at his listed residence in Maine.

Tuesday, Feb. 12

9:48 a.m. – An EG resident told police she’d received a letter in the mail from a collection agency for a bill owed to Cox Communications for $486, for an account registered to an address in Providence. The resident said she’d lived in East Greenwich for several years and had not set up an additional account.

12:15 p.m. – A furniture truck driver reported a downed power line on a private road off South County Trail. National Grid was notified.

Wednesday, Feb. 13

6:48 p.m. – Coventry Police reported a pothole in front of 211 Crompton Road. Six drivers reported damage to their cars from the pothole.

Thursday, Feb. 14

9:30 p.m. – Police had a pickup truck towed from a no parking zone on Queen Street.

Friday, Feb. 15

7:30 p.m. – A Main Street resident asked police for help getting into his apartment. His roommate had allegedly changed the locks. Police contacted the roommate, who asked that police not let the man into the apartment without her presence.

Saturday, Feb. 16

9 a.m. – An East Greenwich couple reported fraudulent bank account use, starting in January. In addition to bills paid to Home Depot and Southern California Edison, $5,000 was moved from one account to another. The address on that account had been changed and police called the phone number on the account and spoke to a man named Jose in San Diego who said he had just moved to the address two days before. The EG couple also reported receiving a bill from BMW with fraudulent charges on it. Their bank, Sovereign, had told them to file a police report.

1 p.m. – A Maplewood Drive resident reported a missing laptop and cell phone, saying they were taken by a Warwick man three weeks ago but her attempts to get them returned had been unsuccessful.
