Police Log: Dress Theft, A Loaded Gun

Sunday, Feb. 17

3:50 a.m. – Police had two cars towed from the rear lot at Town Hall. There is no overnight parking allowed in the lot and there was also a parking ban in effect because of snow.

11:46 a.m. – A town plow truck driver struck a light pole while clearing snow on Old Farm Road, knocking it down. 

6:28 p.m. – A woman told police a man taking her and her daughter to look at an apartment in Coventry tried to kiss her and grab her leg. When they stopped at the McDonald’s on New London Turnpike, she said he grabbed her daughter’s jacket to keep them in the car. Police contacted the man, who had placed an ad on Craigslist for the Coventry apartment. He denied assaulting the woman.

Tuesday, Feb. 19

3 p.m. – The owner of Zuzu’s Petals on Main Street reported the theft of a dress at her shop on Saturday, Feb. 16, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. She said it had been a particularly busy day and she didn’t notice the missing dress until later in the day. She said the dress, orange with black leather detail, was priced at $425.

5:58 p.m. – Police arrested Mario Porcayo, 28, of Victoria Street in Providence, for driving without a license after he was stopped at 1000 Division Street because there were no registration plates on the his car. Porcayo had a Mexican-issued passport but no valid license. He was cited and released. The owner of the car came to drive it from the scene.

Wednesday, Feb. 20

9:37 a.m. – A security guard for the National Guard site at Camp Fogarty told police a co-worker threatened him after he was disciplined for behaving badly on the job. The co-worker had been fired but the security guard said the man was unstable and carried a loaded rifle with him. EG police notified police in Portsmouth, where the fired man lives, to apprise them of the situation.

11 a.m. – A Warwick resident told police she’d damaged her car while driving on Shippeetown Road on Feb. 13. She said she’d hit a large pothole and her right front tire was punctured.
