Police Log: Drinking, Stalking, Keying, Biting

Friday, Feb. 22

1:11 a.m. – Police arrested Chelsea Colaluca, 23, of Trout Brook Lane in Hope, for driving with an expired license after she was pulled over for speeding on Division Street. Routine checks showed her license had expired Jan. 16. She was cited for going 56 mph in a 25 mph zone and for the license violation. A friend showed up to drive her car from the scene.

9:43 p.m. – Police stopped a 87-year-old West Warwick man after reports of erratic driving on South County Trail. Routine checks showed the car registration was expired so police seized the plates and had the car towed. The man was given a summons and police drove him home.

Saturday, Feb. 23

4:05 a.m. – Police had a Warwick man taken by EG Rescue to Kent Hospital after a King Street resident had called 911 to report that a man wouldn’t leave her residence. The man was drunk and had vomited several times on the building’s stairs and had fallen asleep in the woman’s hallway. The man told police he just wanted his coat, that he and a friend had been invited to the apartment after meeting the woman and her roommate at a bar. The woman found the coat, but then the man told police he was homeless and drunk and wanted to go to the hospital. The woman said she didn’t want to press charges.

2:10 p.m. – A Warwick woman told police someone had keyed her car while it was parked outside of Dave’s Marketplace at 1000 Division St. Police noted an 8-inch horizontal scrape mark on the car’s rear hatch and a 3-inch mark on the driver’s door. Police reviewed surveillance videotape and saw two cars, one of them the woman’s, coming from different directions while a third car backed out of a parking space. The woman grabbed the space, although it appeared the other car had been waiting for the space to open up. The driver of the other car parked nearby and made several passes by the woman’s car consistent with the marks the woman later found. The suspect was driving a dark-color station wagon, possibly a VW Passat, was white with a shaved head and goatee, approximately 30 years old and of medium build. The woman said she would press charges.

6:55 p.m. – An Oakwood Drive resident asked police to speak to the Middle Road woman who’d left his house in disarray after house-sitting for three days. Police talked to the woman, who disputed the claim and told police the man had given her a bad check. Police returned to Oakwood and the man said he’d written the check from the wrong account and he would resolve the issue.

Sunday, Feb. 24

12:44 a.m. – Police arrested Julie Brayton, 53, of Summer Street in Providence, for driving while intoxicated after they were notified by another driver about an erratic driver traveling east on Division Street. Police pulled up behind her after she turned onto Main Street and stopped in front of Rok Bar and Grille. Brayton started to back up, not realizing the police car was directly behind her, inspite of flashing lights and several air horn blasts. Bystanders finally got her attention and she stopped. Brayton said she was coming from Newport and on her way home to Providence. She had no explanation for why she had stopped in East Greenwich. Brayton failed a sobriety test. Her breathlyzer tests showed alcohol levels of first .168 and then .166. The legal limit is .08. She was held overnight and arraigned in the morning.

Monday, Feb. 25

3:30 p.m. – A Warwick woman told police a Main Street man had been bothering her and it had gotten to the point she was fearful. She would often see the man when she stopped at Cumberland Farms on Post Road for coffee on her way into work. Then the man started paying for her coffee before she arrived. Then he showed up at her workplace. The woman told his she was not interested but he persisted. It had continued for about five months by the time she contacted police. Police talked to the man and told him not to contact the woman in any way or he would face charges.

4:24 p.m. – A West Warwick woman sought treatment for a dog bite after being bit by a dog belonging to a King Street woman. The Dept. of Health contacted EG police as required by law. The police confirmed the dog was up-to-date on vaccinations and told the dog’s owner the dog must be quarantined for 10 days. The victim told police the bite was minor and she did not want to make a statement.

4:34 p.m. – A Frenchtown Road resident went to the police department to renew a No Trespass order against his ex-wife and her husband, who live on Huling Road. He said he did not want them to enter his house when they dropped off or picked up the children he shares with his ex-wife. When the couple came in to sign the orders, the husband reinstated his No Trespass order against the Frenchtown Road man. The Frenchtown Road man signed that order the following day.

5:09 p.m. – A Deerfield Drive resident told police she teaches in another town in Rhode Island and that her department head had received notice of termination. After that, the department head “friended” the EG woman on Facebook. The EG woman was startled because the man’s Facebook profile picture was that of a joker so she contacted her school superintendent who asked her to notify police.
