Soccer Standout Skylar LeBlanc To Play For Northeastern

Skylar LeBlanc loves soccer – the speed of it, the teamwork of it, the fluidity of it. And it shows. The EG senior has signed to play with Division 1 Northeastern in the fall. That's something major for relatively small East Greenwich. 

Skylar has started for EGHS since she was a freshman, playing outside back/midfielder. She led her team in scoring her sophomore and junior years. She earned three consecutive Rhode Island Coaches Second Team All Division nods (2009-2011) before leading East Greenwich to an appearance in the state championship her senior year and being named to the First Team All-State and NSCAA All-American Team.

She has also played for the Scorpions Soccer Association club squad, which was a back-to-back Elite Clubs National League finalist in 2011 and 2012.

During the spring, Skylar could be found on the track. She was a three-time state relay champion for the East Greenwich track team during her freshman and sophomore years and was a member of the school record-setting 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 teams.

Track was a good secondary sport for Skylar, who was always committed first to soccer.

"I love the constant action and team reliance of soccer," she said. "I enjoy being part of a team effort, something bigger than I could accomplish alone. The creativity and fluidity of the sport is also very appealing to me."

Making to the national final with the Scorpions was a really big deal.

"There was so much adrenalin and motivation to perform," she recalled. "The pressure was outstanding. Even though we lost, it was an amazing experience because our entire team had to work together to make it as far as we did. Not just anyone can say they are the second-best in the country."

She continued, "I knew then that soccer was going to bring me places, like college, because going to such high-level tournaments made my entire team incredibly visible to college scouts. I've also gotten the chance to play next to and against some of the best athletes in the country. I have the highest respect for them and am incredibly thankful for the entirety of these opportunities."
