Worst Of Storm To Hit Tonight

The forecast for our latest snowstorm has been unpredictable, with officials now saying the worst of the storm will hit tonight, but predictions on snow accumulation are still rough – as little as 3 inches, as much as 7 inches. 

That makes planning tough, state Emergency Management Agency's Ed Johnson said in a statewide conference call with city and town officials Thursday morning. 

True enough. East Greenwich instituted a parking ban Wednesday night at 11 p.m., but at least one business was calling Town Hall to complain Thursday because her customers had nowhere to park and there was no snow. But lifting the ban and later reinstating it causes confusion, said Town Manager Bill Sequino, so the ban is in place until Friday morning.

RIEMA's Johnson said winds will be one of the biggest issues along the coast.

The storm poses a dilemna for Supt. Mercurio, since the district has already acrued four snow days, pushing the last day of school to Monday, June 24. As of noon Thursday, all after-school activities had been cancelled – including the high school's annual International Idol, which will be rescheduled. Any determination about school on Friday will not be made until later Thursday or early Friday morning.
