Water Street Sewer Work Should Wrap Up By Month's End

The most disruptive part, taking place now on the stretch of Water Street that rises from the Cove to Barbara Tufts playground, should be done in a week and a half, says DPW director Joe Duarte.

With spring – and the start of boat season – just weeks away, efforts to replace the Water Street sewer line are going full bore, including weekend work. According to Public Works Director Joe Duarte, the work should be done by the end of March.

The work that's forced the closure of Water Street should be done by the end of next week, he said.

Take a walk on Water Street and you'll see this is no small project. Steel sheeting has created a deep trench down one side of Water Street – 25 to 30 feet down. Ground water continues to require duel pumps just to stay ahead of it.

Things should get easier once the work moves level with the cove. There the sewer line won't be so deep.
