5 Things to Know About This Weekend

Mostly sunny; 'Family Fun Day' at Looff Carousel; story time for young kids; 'Astronomy Day'; 'Stranger in a Strange Land' at Weaver library.

Here are five things you should know about for this weekend in and around East Providence:

  1. Mostly to partly sunny all weekend with temperatures topping out in the high to mid 60s.
  2. The East Providence Prevention Coalition holds a Family Fun Day geared to kids ages 5 to 12 on Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm on the grounds of the Crescent Park Carousel, 700 Bullocks Point Ave., in Riverside. 
  3. Weaver Library, 41 Grove Ave., hosts a story time for kids ages 2-6 and their families on Saturday morning at 10 am in the program room.
  4. The Astronomical Society of Southern New England offers an Astronomy Day on Saturday -- 1 pm for solar viewing and 9:30 pm for lunar viewing -- in front of the Barrington Town Hall on County Road.
  5. Weaver Library also presents on Sunday at 1:30 pm a program, A Stranger in a Strange Land, a look at the book, Yellowstone, Land of Wonders: Promenade in North America’s National Park, which chronicles 10 days in the wildnerness on horseback in 1883 by a Belgian travel writer, Jules Leclercq, which has recently been translated into English.
