Dispute Over Business Leads to Assault Charge for One of Ex-Partners

East Providence police charge man, 45, with assault after argument with former business partner.

A dispute between former business partners last week ended up with one of them facing simple assault and marijuana possession charges in East Providence.

Joao Soares, 45, of 510 Bullocks Point Ave., was charged by police on Tuesday evening, July 2, for striking his former partner during an argument over the break-up of the business relationship.

Soares was arrested about 6:30 pm and taken to the police station. At the station, he was searched and police found a plastic baggie of marijuana in the pocket of his shorts, according to the police report.

Soares was released with a date to appear in District Court to face the two charges.
