East Providence Woman Among 3 Arrested In 2 'Serious' Mansfield Incidents: Cops
Two firearms and a "significant amount of cocaine were also seized during the "serious and unrelated incidents," police said.
MANSFIELD, MA — An East Providence woman was among three arrested during a pair of "serious and unrelated incidents" in Massachusetts Saturday, police said.
Along with the three arrests, officers seized two guns and a "significant amount of cocaine," the Mansfield Police Department said in a media release.
"In the first incident, officers responded early Saturday morning to a health and welfare check on West Street that led to a domestic violence investigation," the release said.

Officers arrested a 39-year-old Foxborough, Massachusetts, man on charges of assault and battery on a family or household member and strangulation or suffocation, according to the release.

"The man also had two outstanding warrants for gun and drug charges," the release said.

Then, later Saturday morning, "officers responded to a call for service on Maple Street that also resulted in a domestic violence investigation," the release said. "Through an on-scene investigation, Mansfield Police developed probable cause to obtain a court-authorized search warrant."
During the ensuing search, detectives found and seized 128 grams of suspected cocaine, two 9 mm firearms and additional drugs, including steroids, testosterone and psilocybin mushrooms, according to the release.

A 32-year-old Mansfield man was arrested and charged with cocaine trafficking, possession of drugs, procuring liquor for a person under the age of 21, reckless endangerment of a child, assault and battery on an intimate partner, and disorderly conduct, the release said.
The East Providence woman, also 32, was also arrested and charged with suffocation or strangulation in connection with the later incident, according to the release.
"Additional charges may be filed at the conclusion of the investigation," the release said.

"Due to the medical needs of two of the suspects, officers maintained continuous hospital watches, requiring additional 24-hour staffing over an extended period of time while the department continued to maintain full police coverage throughout Mansfield," the release said.
"Both of these incidents required careful and thorough investigation, with a significant commitment of resources," Police Chief Ronald Sellon said in the release.
"Our officers were focused first and foremost on maintaining public safety, while also ensuring their own safety and the safety of everyone involved," Sellon said. "Our officers handled both situations professionally while continuing to meet the needs of the community."
