Here are some of the events taking place around East Providence for Friday, October 5, 2012.

East Providence Weather:
- Friday: Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.
- Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. Southwest wind around 6 mph.
Townie Pride Parade: Townie Pride Parade is Friday at the Pierce Athletic Complex. Per the EPSD, baseball gate opens at 5:30pm and closes at 6:10pm. The parade starts promptly at 6:15pm. Anyone not entering through the baseball gate with a canned good will have to pay the $5 entrance fee. Admission is FREE with a donation of a canned good to all who wish to participate in the parade or Admission: $5.00/Adult or $5.00/Student
Contemporary Dance Audition: Urban Coastal Dance is a contemporary dance company committed to fostering environmental responsibility through the performing arts. We are currently seeking three dancers for an upcoming performance. Please come prepared to move through modern/contemporary movement and improvisation. Audition will be held Friday, October 5th at 7:30pm at 95 Empire Drive #As220, East Providence. The audition is free.

City Offices Closed: East Providence City Offices will be closed Monday, October 8th because of the Columbus Day Holiday.
Voter Registration Drive: The City of East Providence will be holding a voter registration drive this Sunday, October 7th at the East Providence Police Station, 750 Waterman Avenue from 10AM to 4PM.

Any one not registered by the October 7, 2012 deadline to vote a full ballot can go to City Hall on Election Day and fill out a voter registration form and cast a ballot for President / Vice President only.
A new federal law permits voter registration, change of address, and name change to be mailed. Call our office at 401-435-7502, or for hearing-impaired, TDD: 431-1633, for a form. Mailed registrations must be postmarked by October 7, 2012, for the voter to be eligible to vote in this Presidential Election.
Mail ballot applications for the Presidential Election must be received by the Canvassing Authority no later that 4:00 pm Tuesday, October 16, 2012.
This Day in History: On this day in 1947, President Harry Truman (1884-1972) makes the first-ever televised presidential address from the White House, asking Americans to cut back on their use of grain in order to help starving Europeans. At the time of Truman's food-conservation speech, Europe was still recovering from World War II and suffering from famine.
