James Russo, 94, Retired RWU Professor, Coach

James Russo, 94, of Wampanoag Trail and formerly of Madeline Drive, East Providence, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was 94.

He was the husband of the late Lucia "Lucy" (Capobianco) Russo, to whom he was married 55 years. He was born in Providence, a son of the late Carmine and Maria (Dolce) Russo.

Russo was a professor of mathematics and chairman of the department at Roger Williams University and an attorney at law before retiring. He was also the first basketball coach. The James Russo award is presented to the Outstanding Student-Athlete of the year at Roger Williams.

Calling hours are today from 4 to 7 pm at Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence. Burial will be on Wednesday at 10 am from Perry-McStay with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Martha’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.
