Rita S. Cronan, 89, Retired Legal Secretary

Rita S. (Fogarty) Cronan, of Franklin Street, Riverside, East Providence died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital.  She was 89.

She was the wife of the late James P. Cronan, Jr. She was born in Providence, a daughter of the late Michael and Winifred (Hawkins) Fogarty.

Cronan was a legal secretary for attorney August Van Couyghen before retiring.  She was a communicant of St. Brendan’s Church and a member of the Forever Young Club. 

She leaves two daughters, Ann L. Pineau of Riverside and Patricia M. Greichen of Reading, Ma., two sons, Dennis J. Cronan of Reno, Nev. and James P. Cronan, III of Warren, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  She was the sister of the late Winifred Cleary, Thomas Fogarty, Helen Battey and Mary Doorley.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at  9 am from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at  10 am in St. Brendan’s Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
